What should I expect when I have a CBCT Scan?

The CBCT procedure is simple!

The machine is very small (shown below). Before you sit on the adjustable seat, you will be asked to remove anything metallic from your head including earrings, eye glasses or necklesses. Then a lead apron (not show in the picture below) will be drapped over you and a small gate closed, positioning you upright in the chair. The seat will be lowered and your chin posiioned in a plastic chinrest. Your head positioning will be confirmed with the use of lights and a quick "snap shot" or scout picture made to verify your position. Then you will be asked to close your eyes and breath through your nose and keep still.

The CBCT procedure is Fast!

The gantry over your head will then rotate and 20 seconds latter its all over.

Then it only takes between 1 to 2 minutes before your pictures appear on the screen.

Depending on the examination ordered, the specialist oral and maxillofacial radiologist will then preliminarily "go through" your scan with you personally.
